Unggoy - Nicknamed 'Grunts' or 'Monkeys' by the UNSC, Unggoy are the lowest caste of the Covenant Army. They are physically and mentally weak, and are abused by the other ranks. Used as Cannon Fodder, Unggoy are often thrown into battle with nothing but a Plasma Pistol and expected to die for a religion that not all even follow. However, they are generally to cowardly to stand up for themselves, and a large majority of the race have given in to the religion and are now Zealous for the Forerunners.
Kig-Yar - The Kig-Yar, or 'Jackals' by the Marine Corps, are the second lowest tier of Covenant Infantry. They are hired mercenaries, but are treated almost as bad as their Unggoy subordinates. Because of this, they generally are the most hostile to the Unggoy, so they can assume control over the tiny amount of authority they have. They are far more agile and quick than the Unggoy, but are still only given small arms weapons. Although, they also generally harness a point defense gauntlet.
Skirmishers - Although holding a completely different skillset, Skirmishers are none other than a subspecies of Kig-Yar. They are bulkier, faster, more aggressive, and stronger than their Jackal peers, though. They are sent in as shock troops to devastate soldiers on the battlefield, and are feared within the hearts of almost every soldier in the UNSC.
Yan'Mee - The 'Drones' don't exactly hold a place in the Covenant Hierarchy, but would be presumed to be fairly low on the caste. They are buglike creatures, and are generally sent in massive swarms to decimate infantry, and then fly away before they can be taken down. They are not given very effective armor, and can be taken down easily, but their large numbers are what is the really frightening attribute to them.
Huragok - Huragok (Engineers) Are rarely if ever seen in combat situations. Generally they will be fixing ships are maintaining fuel for star ships. They are very peaceful creatures, and their religious significance in the Covenant is unknown.
Mgalekgolo - Mgalekgolo are an assemblage of worms called Lekgolo to make the Covenant's Juggernauts that the UNSC have nicknamed 'Hunters'. Practically bulletproof, the Hunters are always sent in pairs called 'Bond Brothers'. They are very attached to one another, and killing one will only make the other very angry. These Hunters are not creatures that you want to go head to head with, even if you're a SPARTAN.
Jiralhanae - The newest to join the Covenant Empire, the 'Brutes' are deadly in combat. They are extremely aggressive and angry, masters of guerrilla warfare, and frankly unpredictable creatures altogether. They have a feud with the Elites that will likely lead to bad things in the later years of the Human-Covenant war.
Sangheili - The undisputed highest caste in the Military, the Sangheili are not only extremely smart, but also the best fighters in the Covenant. Nicknamed 'Elites' for their skill and prowess in combat, Sangheili are generally seen as the Commanders of the lower castes. However, this does not mean that they hang back and let their troops do the work. No, Sangheili are Honor bound warriors that wouldn't rather do anything but fight and fight and fight.
San Shy'uum - These aliens are the political and religious leaders of the Covenant. 'Prophets' are cunning and manipulative creatures. However, they are weaker than Unggoy physically, and therefor leave the military command to their Sangheili subordinates.
